Beware: New EF Regulations Could Impact Buying a New Water Heater Soon
Call us at (713) 526-1491 before the deadline of April 16, 2015 to learn about your water heater options!
It’s true. Your water heater will likely become more expensive to replace, due to new EF (energy factor) ratings requirements effective April 15. This will change the water heaters being manufactured in the following ways:
- Higher prices – up to 35% higher according to estimates
- Larger units – just when you were looking forward to that great smaller form factor tankless unit, the sizes will change
- Installation requirements will be more complicated, which could lead to higher prices
- some home remodeling expenses may be incurred if current unit is in a small space
As we recently announced on facebook, it really IS time to talk to Village about replacing your water heater. And of course, it’s not only for the reasons stated above, but for the benefits of having a newer unit. You’ll have hot water exactly when you need it, without waiting for the cold water to gradually warm up, and without wasting energy heating water all day.
According to Energy Star:
“Gas tankless models are a great choice for new construction and major remodeling, but are also becoming popular as a replacement for gas storage water heaters.
If you want to replace your current gas water heater don’t wait until it fails, as this will leave little time to choose and install a certified ENERGY STAR tankless model.
By heating water only when you need it, ENERGY STAR certified tankless water heaters save the typical family more than $80 per year, or $1,700 over the lifetime of the water heater, on gas bills compared to a standard storage model.”
